I went with a transom bracket. It now has a 115 HP Johnson installed that weighs about 325 pounds. The aluminum transom bracket weighs about 50 pounds. I replaced the plywood in the transom. Getting the old plywood out (1-1/2" thick) was a problem until I tried the chain saw. I made on vertical cut and one horizontal cut. I was able to use the old plywood for a pattern for the new piece. For the new piece of plywood I used two thcknesses of 3/4 inch and on thickness of 1/2 inch. I used epoxy and ss screws to bond the three pieces together. As a previous post suggests I used knee braces from the transom to the stringers where the former engine was mounted. The boat has had three summers of use, some of it on Lake Michigan. It has been towed three times to Northern Ontario for a total 4,000 miles. No problems with leakage or stress cracks.
