I inherited a 50 y/o sailboat that had no hull #. During restoration I went to the Secretary of State here in MI and they assigned a hull # sight unseen no questions asked. They only asked that I permaenty affix the # to the inside some place where it could easily be seen. I used a woodburner, I suppose you'll need an engraving tool. Go to your Secretary of State and expain your situation. I'm sure they will be glad you're making the boat legal and assign a hull # no problem. Good luck.
