Solar Trolling??? Battery Size-

Howdy-
I recently aquired a 24# Sears trolling motor from an in-law and I have 1-2watt solar panel. I must also admit to being gas dependent as far as boat motors are concerned. I will probablly just use this motor on a 12ft jon boat but may also use it in on a 16ft fiberglass v-hull. 1) I'm looking for 8 hours of trolling use on the jon -what size of battery is recommended????? 2)Also, is it alright to attach a solar panel to the battery while trolling - (maybe a fuse should be placed somewhere)?
