i see nothing wrong with using aluminum but i wouldnt use diamond plate if your going to paint it with bed liner paint... for 1 diamond plate is almost twice as much as regular plate and second in order for the paint to stick to al youll need to sand it etching the aluminum making that reall difficult to do with diamond plate...
