8" Tires -vs- 12" Tires

I've been trailering bigger boats for some time and have never had to worry about small tires, but any advise from ya' all would be helpful on making a decision. I have a small trailer with 8" tires and plan on hauling a 14' Jon Boat with 15hp motor. Weight is around 450lbs with all the goodies. It will be used for local trips as well as a couple times a month for trips down to the Gulf coast of Florida, 500 miles round trip, all good roads. Should I change to 12" tires? Or will it be ok to run it this way? Or should I just get a new trailer all together? I think I know the anwser and want to save money, but don't want to spend too much time on the side of the road either.
