Fish Finder trouble

not sure if this is the appropriate board for this question, but here goes. I've got the transducer for my fish finder mounted on the bottom of my trolling motor, and am having trouble getting it to work correctly-does anyone else use this setup and do you have any tips? I don't want to drill thru my boat to mount it, so I don't know what else my options are-appreciate the feedback-thanks!
