cleaning alum. oxidation

I have a 16' alumacraft boat that has developed some oxidation/pinholes...what type of acid can I use to clean up this oxidation? After it is cleaned can I apply Herculiner directly or do I have to prime it? Besides spraying foam back in what are my options for filling between the ribs? Polystyrene boards?
