Rivet Leak Repair Results - 19' Starcraft[Aluminum Boat and Repair Board ] [F A Q ] Posted byTerry (63.227.96.131) on May 06, 2002 at 16:19:48: Thanks to "bigguy" and others for the advice on the heat activated epoxy (3-M)sold by Cabelas and others. I sanded to bare metal around the offending rivets with rough paper and used propane torch to heat the aluminum per instructions. Even though applying from underneath the trailered boat, there is very little epoxy sag, and it flowed well around rivet heads. Treated 13 leakers or suspected leakers, gave it two days, and ran it hard on a very rough Lake Pend Oreille (Idaho) for 2 1/2 hours. NO FAILURES TO BOND AND ABSOLUTELY NO LEAKS OR SEEPAGE! We will give it the test of time, but this material seems almost to good to be true!
