Cracked ribs and rivet compound?? Please help![Aluminum Boat and Repair Board ] [F A Q ] Posted bybndbac (207.220.156.141) on March 27, 2002 at 08:49:14: My 14ft aluminum boat has some cracked ribs (on the bottom middle) due to a bad trailer. Trailer has been replaced. Some crackes have original rivets on both sides of the crack and look ok, the crackes running through the rivets need fixed. I can rivet on both sides of crack or should I have the crackes welded. Which would be best? If I have welded I can only weld on one side of the rib. When replacing rivets I was told to use a compound on the rivet or hole like siclaflex (spelling?). But should it be hard drying or soft drying? What other products can be used?
