Production of the 18 began in 57 and ran to about 68.If the motor is clunking most likely your clutch dog is worn.It is in the gearcase and is a straight forward repair for the mechanically inclined.Don`t attempt any repair without a manual.Sometimes the dog can be reversed so the less worn reverse side is in the forward gear position.A new dog will be difficult to find but
many routine parts are still readily available.
If it is just reving up like it is slipping you may have a spun prop hub which can be repaired by a prop shop.
