Try a search on here using your edit button and the words briggs and stratton in all kinds of
combos.
I`ve heard early motors had trouble with rev limiter switch, they vibrate pretty bad. They are not suitable for trolling.Briggs shops don`t have a clue about them.My guess is they don`t push as well as a mainstream name brand motor. If you are looking for a 5 hp range I would stick with a good used Evinrude/Johnson. the 5.5 dates back to
54 and goes to 64 the 5 and 6 runs from 65 up.
The 5.5 is a sweet motor that with care runs and runs. Many repairs can be made with pliers, crescent wrench and a couple of screwdrivers Routine parts are available back to the early 50s.In central NY a good runner is in the $200 to $300 range. If you buy a 64 you get 50:1 mix.I`m betting the 65 up model 5 and 6 hp
are as good and of course use the 50:1 mix.
