It'll also be more tractable for idling-in-gear and slow-speed-ops, when you're taking up the ski rope, etc. The 3 of course would be more economical but you probably wouldn't be happy with it for water skiing etc. If you like the Mercs, I was pretty impressed with my friend's 90 hp 3-cyl Merc, excellent hole shot and it didn't bog at all while pulling up a slalom skier on a 16-ft ski boat. It had a strong, steady pull. They're not much on rev's but are a great torque motor and probably quite fuel efficient. You'd want one no older than mid-'90's because Merc improved the internals over the first models (better design on the rods and pistons). HTH and happy motor hunting...........ed
