Boysen reeds on small outboards[ Ol' Paw's Boat Motor Bulletin Board ] [ Ol' Paw's Fishing Page ] Posted by j leus (12.109.196.226) on December 22, 2003 at 06:54:04: Major, you mentioned that you have had luck with plastic reeds on small outboards. I have thought about doing this but have read that if you have any kind of "hick up" or cough that you will break reeds!!! I have a Suzuki 25 (3 cylinder) that I run due to horsepower restrictions in an area I frequent. I have a CMC PT-30 to enhance performance, run WOT alot at 5600 - 5750 rpm (I have a Tiny Tach on it), it does an honest 34+ mph GPS. This boat duck hunts and is exposed to some cold temps from time to time. I do get a cough when starting very infrequently but it does happen. By a cough I mean a "chuff" back through the carb(s). Not trying to argue your point, just want some feed back on durability over steel!!! Sub freezing and several miles from the launch is not the place to eat a reed. I do have some minor parting lines in the casting of the intake that I want to smooth out next time it is off the the motor, have you tried smoothing the intake path? any gains? Thanks for your $0.02. |
