Mercruiser 470 Ratings

I am in the market for a replacement boat and I was just hung up on by a guy that said he has a 1979 Sportcraft with a Merc 470 that puts out 205 HP with an Alpha outdrive.

I questioned the HP and said it seemed strange, (thats when he hung up on me)I always thought the highest output 4 was the 3.0 L 140 HP Chevy, but I see the Mercruiser 470 is rated at 170 HP with a ford head.

Am I right that 200+ HP out of any 4 cylinder after a standard rebuild is possible.

By the way, I did not put it that way, he hung up when I asked about a fresh rebuild that he said was 4 years ago and over 200 hp out but was not sure. I doubt I would want to by a boat from someone with like that anyway.
