You don't mention what year your 6 is so i'm assuming its 60's vintage.Looking at the starboard side of the exhaust housing you should see a small access cover held on by 2 screws.Remove it to access you shift linkage connector.Shift the motor into forward gear and remove the lower bolt from the connector.
Above the cavitation plate are the bolts that mount the lower unit to the exhaust housing. They should be 7/16 hex.Once they are removed the lower unit should slide off the motor.Do not twist it to get it off as you will damage the water tube going into the pump. The pump housing is held on by small,TENDER screws that break very easily.I strongly suggest you use a little heat if they don't come RIGHT out.If you get this far ,just replace the impellor.Still available from dealer or NAPA E-mail me if you get in trouble(before you get in trouble. These old motors are an obsession,er,hobby for me.Good luck
