problems flushing a Johnson 25

I flush out my Johnson 25 after each use using the rubber type fittings attached to a u-shaped tension clamp. The rubber fittings don't fit over the water inatakes very snugly, and very little water comes out of the engine. I have to hold the rubber fittings over the intakes by hand, which requires putting my face in the prop, which is not running, and getting a face full of exhaust. I've tried several different brands of rubber fittings, but all have the same problem. Any suggestions?
